Craeft by Alexander Langlands (and Calligraphy)

One of the most interesting classes I took at university was run by the fine art department. This class was about looking at spaces, the outcome was to be a response to a specific space. I ended up making a lantern which told the story of a witch trial which took place very close to me. Something which came out of this project was this idea that a connection to the land had been lost through the persecution of witches. Witches were more like herbalists and this knowledge had been lost because of the witch trials. It was an idea which fascinated me but as a design student, I was…

My Favourite Brush Pens For Bullet Journaling

When I’m not writing about notebooks I spend my time working as a graphic designer. Over the last few years, I have specialised a little more and now most of the work I do is lettering and calligraphy. These are two skills that take a lot of practice, one of the ways I practice is by decorating my bullet journal with small pieces of lettering. Incidentally, if you want to see more of my lettering work you can head over to my design Instagram.  Choosing the right pen for brush lettering is a personal thing. I’m so glad I took the time to find a name that resonated with what I want to do in the future. I’ve had a few people message me saying how much…

My Favourite Art Books For Beginners

I own a lot of art books, like seriously too many. Just the other day I bought a job lot of calligraphy books on eBay. It was cheaper than buying them individually, don’t judge me. You might be surprised considering I’m at art school but I didn’t do art during high school. A lot of what I learned came from books and you can do the same. So today I want to recommend 5 art books for beginners. I will say right now that these choices are very much based on my personal preferences and the type of art I like. If you’re looking for a book which will teach…

5 Must Read Calligraphy Books For Beginners

I’ve been learning calligraphy for almost 3 years now. Though I wouldn’t describe calligraphy as just a hobby, I’m still in the learning stage of this skill. So today I want to share some calligraphy books that I think are a must-read for beginners to calligraphy. I should state that these choices come from my experience of learning calligraphy. I think a lot of people work under the assumption that you need to have nice handwriting to be good at calligraphy. I’m here to say you really don’t. I’ll insert an image so you can see what my calligraphy was like when I started. It’s only very recently that I…
