Course Induction & Matriculation | Art School Diary #1

I am starting a graphic design course at art school. There has been a lot of hard work which has got me to this point. So I thought I would share my whole art school experience. I’m hoping to make this a weekly thing but we shall have to see about that. My first week at art school was a soft introduction. Technically it was freshers week so I should have been out partying or something. Unfortunately, I’m not into that sort of thing. COURSE INDUCTION The week started out with course inductions. I went to a talk for all the Communication Design students, then a more specific talk for…

A Review Of My Art & Design Work From 2018

Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen a number of artists look back at the work they did in 2018. I might be running a little late but I think my art massively improved during 2018. Between working on a portfolio to use for art school and trying out new techniques like screen printing and cyanotype. I created a huge amount of work in 2018 which I’m really proud of. So today I thought I would share some of my art & design work from the last year. MY ART & DESIGN WORK FROM 2018 ABSTRACT ART Throughout 2018 I spent time working with texture and mark making. Creating pieces…

My Favourite Art and Design Books of 2018

Today I am going to share some of my favourite art and design books from 2018. In past years these posts have been more broad, focusing on fiction and non-fiction books. However this year I’ve found myself having less time for reading because of university. Coincidentally I have also bought myself more art books this year for that same reason. MY FAVOURITE ART AND DESIGN BOOKS OF 2018 Hand Drawn Maps by Helen Cain This is a book I was given for Christmas last year and I love it. Hand Drawn Maps is a ‘how to’ guide on hand-drawn cartography. It starts out with a brief history of maps and…

Looking Back On 2018 & My 2019 Goals

2018 has been a year of changes and trying out new things. For once I’m not going to say that really cliched 2017 feels like it was just a month ago. I’ve packed a whole lot of stuff into the year. But honestly, I’m having an existential crisis over the fact 2020 is just a year away. LOOKING BACK ON 2018 UNIVERSITY One of what I would consider the biggest things about 2018 was the fact I got a place at university. I’ve been working towards this goal for so long. Its strange knowing I’m now at this point. Looking back just a few years ago I didn’t think I…

    Celebrating David Bowie Using Typography

Today I am going to share the process I went through while working on my final project for college. This course didn’t have any exams, so my final mark was totally dependent on this project. There was a number to choose from but when I found out one particular project was to “celebrate the songs of David Bowie using typography” I knew I had to do it. I’ve been a fan of David Bowie since I was a child. I still have a copy of that Best of Bowie CD from 2002 so my dad must have introduced me to it around then. Already being a fan of Bowie made…
