Final Week Before Assessment | Art School Diary #13

The final week before my semester one hand in date was quite hectic. With two projects needing to be finished not to mention an essay which still hadn’t been written. Being my first hand in at art school this was quite stressful, coming into the course from college made it hard knowing what level the lecturers expect you to be, when it comes to your work. But I’m glad to say I coped with the week, CFS problems and all. STAYING ORGANISED I know I just said this week was stressful, but that isn’t quite the truth. One of the most important things I learned at college was time management.…

Meeting With Disability Services | ASD #12

This week at university I did more work on my modernist art publication and had a really positive meeting with disability services. From this meeting, they were able to put measures in place to help me with my studies. MEETING WITH DISABILITY SERVICES By this point, I was getting close to the end of the semester and it was really starting to show through my health. My bad days were getting worse and I was having more of them. To the point where I only managed to make it into the studio for a half day the whole week. Fortunately, I also had a meeting with disability services scheduled for…

Darkroom & Artist Books | Art School Diary #11

It might sound a little strange but I came to a realisation this week that I do actually enjoy what I’m doing. Between all the stress of coursework and managing a chronic illness, it seems I forgot to enjoy my time at university. Between learning about the darkroom process this week and working on an editorial project it all just clicked. I really do enjoy graphic design and I’m glad I applied to university. It’s the reason why this flare-up of my CFS is so frustrating. Because I don’t want to be stuck at home all the time. I want to be in the studio working around others and taking…

Photography & Essay Writing | Art School Diary #10

It’s been another quiet week. My CFS has still been giving me problems so I’ve spent most of my time resting and trying to catch up with sketchbook work. Fortunately, I’ve managed to get a letter from my doctor and an appointment with disability services. I don’t know if there is much my uni can do to help, but at least I won’t get in bother for missing class. This week I have been trying out photography and learning about the darkroom process. As well as doing more work for my current project and context module. PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP One of the most exciting things to happen this week was an…

Risograph Printing & CFS Problems | ASD #9

This week I had a few really exciting workshops to attend. We were getting an introduction to risograph printing as well as a workshop on bookbinding. Both are going to be quite useful for the project we’ve just started. I was really excited about these workshops so of course, my chronic fatigue had to come along and ruin the fun. RISOGRAPH PRINTING I love risograph printing but I’ve never been able to give it a try. I actually talk about it quite often here, Ohh Deer does little riso printed calendars in each Papergang box. Risograph is a type of printer but is more like screen printing than digital printing.…
