My Must Have Art and Design Supplies

Today I thought I would share a few of my must-have art and design supplies. As a graphic designer, there are a few items which I use in every project I work on. Some are things I which help me with my creative process, like watercolour paints. Others are items required by my course, such as the sketchbooks which show my thought process. MY MUST HAVE ART AND DESIGN SUPPLIES SKETCHBOOKS Sketchbooks are probably one of the most important art and design supplies which I use. In the last year, I’ve bought at least 15 sketchbooks. The type and size depend on the project I’m working on. If it is…

Getting Rejected From Glasgow School of Art

In December of last year, I started applying to university, one of the places I applied to was Glasgow School of Art. If you’ve read the title of this post you may already know that I didn’t get a place. A lot of people assumed I was going to be quite upset about this but honestly looking back I’m quite happy about the whole situation. I should also point out right now, I have a place on a course. Don’t feel mad for me getting rejected (cause I’m not). APPLYING TO GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART In going to start by explaining how applying to art courses work because it’s a…

    Sharing My Hand Lettering Process

At the beginning of April I started the 100 day project. This is a personal challenge where you create something every day for 100 days then share it online. I’ve been working on improving my hand lettering skills for two years now. Practice is an essential element of this particular skill and the 100 day project sounded like the perfect motivation to practice more. Today I wanted to share my hand lettering process when creating a piece of calligraphy. MY HAND LETTERING PROCESS To learn the basic letterforms I bought Modern Calligraphy Workshop by Imogen Owen. I traced the letters till I had a good grasp on how they flow…

Visiting The 2018 DJCAD Degree Show

A few weeks ago I took a trip up to Dundee to visit the Duncan of Jordanstone degree show. This is an event put on by the art school every year which showcases the work of fourth-year students. I’ve been to the DJCAD Degree Show a number of times in recent years and I’m always really impressed by the work on display. I could quite easily have spent an entire day at the show, unfortunately, I didn’t plan in advance and only had two hours for a very quick visit. GRAPHIC DESIGN @ DJCAD DEGREE SHOW Some may think I’m strange for saying this, considering I’m a graphic design student.…

MinaLima Book Design | Illustrated Classics

I’ve got a really short post today. I just wanted to tell you about the illustrated MinaLima classics. If you haven’t already worked it out I am a little obsessed with MinaLima. That is Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima who did the graphic design work on Harry Potter. They also worked on a bunch of other movies. Such as The Fault In Our Stars, The Imitation Game, Sweeney Todd and The Golden Compass. ILLUSTRATED MINALIMA CLASSICS As you can see their latest creation are these illustrated editions of classic children’s story books. And I’m more than a tiny bit in love with them. I’ve mentioned this before but I am a total…
