A Back To School Haul | Cass Art Student Day

It’s September again which means some back to school shopping for art supplies. However this year I decided to wait a few weeks so I had a better understanding of what I would be needing for the upcoming year (most of which I already had), this also meant I could take advantage of Cass Art’s student day and get extra money off along with a few freebies. Anyway here’s what I got. BACK TO SCHOOL ART HAUL The thing about graphic design is that there is no specific medium you have to use while going through the design process. The only important thing is that you get your ideas down…

Designing An Advertising Campaign Is Hard

For this project we had to design an advertising campaign for diversity and it was really really difficult. I now have so much respect for people who do this as a job because holy crap this was hard. Designing the posters was actually the easiest bit of this because you also had to create the tag line and what you wanted the poster to be about. DESIGNING AN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN The problem with advertising diversity is there is so many different things you could do it about. Visiting The House of MinaLima In London

I may not have mentioned this before but I am a tad obsessed with the graphic design work from the Harry Potter movies. An exhibition of the graphic design work from the Potter movies recently opened in London and it is possibly my new favourite place. It’s called the House of MinaLima. Named after Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima who were the graphic designers that worked on the Harry Potter movies. THE HOUSE OF MINALIMA The House of MinaLima is free to get into and right behind the Palace Theatre. So if you’re down in London seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child you have no reason not to visit. The exhibition…

Illustrating Junk Food For A Poster Design

My sister is a little protective of her food. You know that bit in Fellowship of the Ring where Bilbo goes all Gollum-y when Frodo asks to see the ring. That’s similar to what my sister does when you get too close to her food. For years I have been threatening to make a t-shirt proclaiming that ‘Kirsty doesn’t share food’ and finally as a birthday present for her this year I actually did it. ILLUSTRATING JUNK FOOD I started off by forgetting everything we’ve learned at college about the design process and jumped in without really knowing what I was going to do. I knew the piece was going…

    Logo Design For Eco-Hotel Chain

Out of the three parts to the corporate identity project this was the most fun. We got to work with an interior design student on their final degree project. They were creating the interior design for a hotel and we got to create the logo for their hotel. Today I am going to share the process behind creating a logo for this hotel brand. My client was creating a sustainable, environmentally friendly hotel. But she also didn’t want it to scream eco-friendly. So it was tricky finding a logo that had some sort of natural element without going too over the top. I eventually came up with these very stylised, almost 50s…
