I Designed A Logo For A Creative Arts Festival

This post should really be called ‘how to win £100 without really trying’ because thats basically what happened with this project. My latest project at college was all about corporate identity, specifically for a creative arts festival. I had to create a logo and branding for this festival. If you have a blog you probably know what I’m talking about. Designing a logo is really hard because it’s so simple, think of the Twitter logo, or Facebook or Instagram. They are super simple shapes but are also instantly recognisable. I DESIGNED A LOGO FOR A CREATIVE ARTS FESTIVAL This branding project was a live project. We were working with a…

    I Designed A Logo For A Nursery

This was the first part of my corporate identity project which I ended up doing last because I missed a few days. Basically this was a practice run at designing a logo for a child’s play group. I started off by doing a little research into play groups and had a look at their logos. Logos are something which can be really complicated because of how important they are. Its the most recognisable thing you see on most websites. This logo was specifically for children so I wanted something that was fun and happy. Maybe almost looking like a child had actually drawn it. So I started off by drawing…

I Designed A Movie Poster For Snowpiercer

The third movie poster I redesigned for this project was Snowpiercer. Snowpiercer is a post-apoycaliptic story set on a train travelling around a nuclear ravaged world. It has some similarities to Red Rising, with the lowest class on the train living in squalor while the first class passengers live in luxury. Its a really interesting film. Made by Bong Joon-ho. It also has Tilda Swinton as a fantastic Effie Trinket like character. I thought this poster would fit the art deco style since art deco was the result of more freely available travel and as such was used in many vintage travel posters. As usual I started off by researching…

    I Designed A Movie Poster For Wall.E

For this part of my contextual studies project I had to redesign the Wall.E film poster into an Art Deco style. This was part of a larger project where I had to design posters for Harry Potter and Snowpiercer. I started out by doing a little research into art deco and was very surprised by what I found out. I knew it was a big design movement around the time of WW1 but knew very little else. It turns out that Art Deco was the result of more affordable travel being available in the 1920s which allowed in situ exposure to other cultures. Designers were fascinated with ancient Egypt and Mesoamerica and so…

I Designed A Film Poster For Harry Potter

For my contextual studies project we had to redesign 3 of our favourite movie posters into specific design styles. First I had to do a Harry Potter poster in the style of Saul Bass. I also designed posters for Snowpiercer and Wall.E. This was such a fun project because I got to work with films I love. Saul Bass was a graphic designer and was well known in the 50s and 60s for his cut paper style. He designed the posters for over 30 films, created title sequences for many films and designed logos for major businesses like AT&T, United Way and Continental Airlines. I started out by doing some…
