Risograph Printing & CFS Problems | ASD #9
This week I had a few really exciting workshops to attend. We were getting an introduction to risograph printing as well as a workshop on bookbinding. Both are going to be quite useful for the project we’ve just started. I was really excited about these workshops so of course, my chronic fatigue had to come along and ruin the fun. RISOGRAPH PRINTING I love risograph printing but I’ve never been able to give it a try. I actually talk about it quite often here, Ohh Deer does little riso printed calendars in each Papergang box. Risograph is a type of printer but is more like screen printing than digital printing.…

First Project Hand In | Art School Diary #8
This week I had my first proper hand in at university. I was really surprised how not stressful this was compared to the hand in days at college. It may be because this is more like an interim hand-in. My work isn’t actually graded till December. But it was still much more laid back compared to what I’m used to. FIRST PROJECT HAND IN So I had to get my poster finished because it was due to be handed in on Friday. I was almost done before the reading week. I should really have used that time to finish my poster but I made the decision not to. So I…

Visiting Dippy At The Kelvingrove Museum
Dippy the Dinosaur is a plaster cast model of a Diplodocus carnegii. For over one hundred years it stood in the entrance hall of the Natural History Museum in London. But recently the powers that be in the museum decided Dippy had to be replaced. As part of this process, Dippy then went on a three-year farewell tour of various museums around the United Kingdom. I like many of you I’m sure, have fond memories of visiting Dippy in London. When I found out it would be travelling to the Kelvingrove museum in Glasgow I just had to go along and see it for myself one last time. DIPPY THE…

Reading Week & GDFS | Art School Diary #7
Reading week is where you don’t have any lectures or tutorials timetabled. You’re meant to take this free time to catch up on work and any personal things needing to be done. Of course, I went into this week with the intention I would catch up on work. As you can probably guess, I got zero work done all week. READING WEEK I didn’t even do much over the reading week and looking back I still feel like I could use another week off just to recover from it. There was a list of things I would be doing with my free time. I was going to get started on…

A New Design Brief | Art School Diary #6
I was a little naughty this week and decided to skip a few days of class. There was a good reason for it and I didn’t actually miss any coursework. I have a feeling there are going to be a number of weeks like this. Laying out type in Adobe Illustrator isn’t very interesting compared to designing models and working in the photo studios. NEW PROJECT BRIEF I’m getting to the point where I’m a little bored of this project. It started in week 1 and it isn’t to be handed in till week 7. That’s a really long time for a project of this kind. It probably doesn’t help…
