BluChickenNinja > The Paper Kind

So I guess I should start with the obvious. I changed the name of my blog. If this has shown up in your WordPress Reader it means you were following my old blog and were transferred to the new one. For the last 7 years I have been blogging under the username BluChickenNinja and today I want to share some of the reasons why I made the change

BluChickenNinja > The Paper Kind

Changing my domain name was a spur of the moment decision, but also its something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I started to hate the name BluChickenNinja. In 2013 it was a great and silly username to have, but things changed, I changed and I started to really dislike the name.

So in 2018 I decided to change my blogs name. I came up with a name, researched how to move, then never did it because I liked the name so much I wanted to use it for a totally different potential business idea. I won’t share it but I still have that name just incase I decide to use it.

For obvious reasons 2020 has been a bit of a strange year. I’m getting to the end of my university education and have to start making plans for what will happen after. I didn’t think this blog would be part of that plan but guess what, 2020 happened and this is the most successful my blog has ever been. I’m never going to get rich and retire from blogging, but over the last 2 years I have made a significant change content wise and I started to see how it could be used after I finish university.

All this to say, I knew this year I wanted to change my domain. It took a while to find a name I liked but I got there eventually. The moving back to WordPress.com part of the plan was a surprise. I think I’ve written about this before but running a self hosted blog is a hassle. Things break, I panic, stress and then have to find someone who can fix the problem or do it myself. I’ve had a number of major problems with my blog and I didn’t want to deal with it anymore. So I’m back where I began.

What Happen’s Next?

As I’ve already said, 2020 happened and all my plans went up in the air. I was going to use the summer to write content for the next year. However a global pandemic happened and I didn’t get as much done as I had wanted.

Originally I had plans to take a break from blogging so I could focus my last semester of university. But it appears that my break has started earlier than expected. University is starting soon and I have a dissertation to write. I took on a voluntary role which has ended up being far more work than I initially thought it would be. I also have other design work which I have to prioritise.

Basically what I’m trying to say is that I don’t quite have the time for blogging right now. But I’m still here. Everything is almost ready for me to start blogging again when I can. If you want to stay in the loop give me a follow on Twitter: @thepaperkindco

  1. 2020 has definitely been a turbulent year, but it’s also a great idea to implement fresh starts. I love the name the Paper Kind and am really excited to see what else comes from these changes. I found myself changing a lot about the look of my blog this year as well. It just felt needed in some way. Hope you’re taking care xx
