Week 1 of university was an easy introduction. I got my first brief and went to my first lecture. I really thought the whole experience was going to be something new. I’m quite surprised to say its very similar to what I was doing at college.
PROJECT BRIEF
At the start of the week, I got my first project brief. I don’t really know what I expected. Maybe because its university I was expecting something harder. But the first brief is almost exactly like the briefs I worked on at college. They aren’t just similar, the wording in some parts is exactly the same. I’m feeling a lot more confident now I know what I have to do.
This first project sounds really fun. I have to create a film poster, but the artwork has to be created entirely with a camera. This first semester we are learning how to design without being reliant on software. So that’s going to be interesting. I’ve done a number of film poster briefs before now. But this is the first time where I haven’t been able to choose a film I know. Which is going to make this project a little different.
FIRST LECTURE
I can’t believe I’m almost 30 and have only just gone to my first lecture. Though it was mostly just an introduction to the module rather than a proper lecture. The module does sound quite interesting though. In college, we only looked at how to create something to communicate an idea in a visual way. This module will go why you communicate visually and how that works. At least that is what I think it is about.
The final hand in for the project is a 2000 word essay. And though its been years since I’ve written a proper essay I’m not too worried about it. I really think blogging has helped when it comes to academic writing. I’m used to creating posts at around 1500 words. This essay won’t be too much longer than that. I think I will need to learn how to take notes during a lecture though. My handwriting is messy at the best of times. It’s even worse when I’m writing quickly.
THAT’S ALL FOLKS
I really don’t know why I worried so much about starting at university. There was some apprehension because I was going from a course where I knew people. To having to make new friends all over again. I don’t know if I’ve changed or if university students are a little friendlier than college. But so far I’ve had no problems meeting new people.
