A Festive Evening In Glasgow

A few days ago I headed down to Glasgow to meet up with some friends and check out the Christmas Market in George Square. It turned out this was the perfect way to get in a Christmassy mood, I love seeing Glasgow with all the lights and Christmas music playing. So here is what I got up to.

STACK AND STILL

After meeting up with my friends in Central Station we decided to have a quick bite to eat. It can be quite hard finding somewhere for food in Glasgow because there is so much choice. So I suggested Stack and Still, a new restaurant I had seen an advert for on Facebook. Stack and Still can be found on West George Street and is special because all it sells is pancakes.

I was in the mood for pancakes and so were my friends so that is where we headed. The fantastic thing about Stack and Still is you can customise your pancakes however you want. You choose how many pancakes you want, then the type of pancake, buttermilk, gluten-free, protein etc. Then they have a list of all the toppings you can have on your pancake, this is divided into sweet and savoury options. They also have some suggestions for toppings, I went for the all-day breakfast option, this included sausage, bacon, mushrooms and tomato with buttermilk pancakes.

If you’re in Glasgow needing a dessert fix Stack and Still is definitely one restaurant to consider. Not only are their pancakes fantastic, but they also have a huge selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I’m not a fan of beer but I tried a little peach beer which a friend had got and I was pleasantly surprised by how drinkable it was. They also have a self-dispensing bar for draught beers so you can pick and choose what you want to try.

GLASGOW CHRISTMAS MARKET

After a quick stop at Cass Art, we headed to the Christmas Market. I never really buy anything at the Christmas Market, we had just eaten so more food was out, and the stalls selling gifts seemed to have the same stuff you could buy just about anywhere. But it was really nice just being able to walk around looking at the lights and listening to the Christmas music. I always like seeing Glasgow at this time of year, despite the crowds there’s always something to see.

Despite having just had pancakes there was one stall I just had to visit, the Dutch pancake stall. You may think having pancakes twice in one day is too much. But it’s Christmas, a time when it’s okay to indulge. Dutch pancakes are small pancakes which are made fresh at the stall, you can choose from all sorts of toppings to go on them. This time I had maple syrup and cream on the pancakes. I love these things and it’s the one thing I don’t mind spending money on. In fact, I was too busy eating the pancakes to get a photo of them. They’re just that good.

FINALLY

And that was my evening in Glasgow. I really enjoyed being able to meet up with friends. Now that we’ve all finished our course it’s strange not seeing them every day. But it was really nice getting to spend time in Glasgow, Christmas is always a good time to visit.
